As global IP activity accelerates and increases, so does its data. Much of this data is channeled through WIPO which is constantly looking for innovative ways to better manage the data for strategic use and analysis by stakeholders worldwide.

In 2018 alone, 253,000 patent applications were submitted through the PCT system. This represents a 9% increase over three years, and for the first time, more than half of all PCT applications submitted in 2018 came from Asia (50.5%).

Analyzing these growing amounts of data through artificial intelligence (AI) is now necessary to improve intellectual property and innovation management strategies. WIPO has made considerable efforts to develop innovative artificial intelligence tools and other functions to transform these data into valuable information for the global IP community.
